Madonna Tops Forbes 2013 List Of The Top-Earning Celebrities
is cheap and tawdry stuff,” Gould wrote, sounding very much like The Hollywood Reporter’s Halperin who last week wondered about Cyrus: “… was that the plan all along? To shock the masses and stir a social media frenzy while corporate sponsors clapped along, gleefully counting impressions?” Or like Amanda Marcotte of Slate who wrote, “Miley Cyrus was so obviously trying to push your buttons, people. Teddy bears to stripping? Oldest trick in the book!” How do we forget that our biggest, most envelope-pushing acts were once accused of being vulgar and — perhaps worse for a would-be pop superstar — unoriginal? Amy Lynn Wlodarski, an associate professor of music at Dickinson College, agrees with psychology professor Routledge that it is all a matter of context: “We have, to some extent, canonized Elvis and Madonna as pop-icon figures.” She continues: “Their controversial pasts are less relevant now … because of the broader impact that each had within the history of popular music. It becomes a more heroic narrative — one in which their supposed transgressions are now interpreted as misunderstood, and they are repositioned as a figure ahead of his or her time.” So does that mean Miley Cyrus will be as big as Elvis, Madonna or Britney? Routledge laughs. “I’m not suggesting that 10 years from now we’ll say, yeah, Miley Cyrus’s performance was amazing — paradigm changing! But this happens over and over again and we do look back nostalgically on these experiences and spin them in a more positive light.” As for Miley, she’s already benefiting from the attention. Over 90,000 digital copies of her new song “Wrecking Ball” have sold, propelled by the more than 300,000 tweets per minute that she reportedly generated at her peak during the VMA broadcast (triple the peak tweets of 98,000 at last year’s VMAs).

Madonna , plus her precious and youngest children David and Mercy, were spotted at Heathrow Airport in London on their way to New York City!!! The three buddies were holding hands, and looked like they were checking the status of their flight. From the looks on their faces – it definitely didn’t seem like their air ship was delayed or anything. Or at least we hope it wasn’t. Waiting at the airport is the worst! Or it can be the worst. We have a feeling this mama and her children wouldn’t mind being stuck together! Besides, we imagine they’re flying private – after all, this IS Madonna! In other news, the queen recently celebrated her 55th birthday , which still completely blows our minds! We wish we were David or Mercy just so we could learn Madonna’s secrets, ha! Stay gorgeous y’all!
Fans didnt flock to stadium and spend upwards of $100 per ticket to hear Madonnas latest stuff. They went to hear hits like Vogue, Like a Virgin and Lucky Star. The tour grossed $305 million and earned her the Top Touring Award at the Billboard Music Awards. Add to that strong merchandise sales, a clothing line, fragrance and investments in companies like Vita Coco and Madonna tops our list of the Highest Earning Celebrities. We estimate the pop star brought in $125 million between June 2012 and June 2013. Thats more money than Madonna has ever earned in the time weve been doing our Celebrity 100 list. The closest she came to $125 million was in 2009 when she earned $110 million. Madonnas success, at age 55, just goes to show the incredible power of a successful music career. Many have accused Lady Gaga of copying Madonnas career. The young star is certainly emulating Madonna when it come to raking in money. Gaga ranks 10th on our list of highest-paid celebrities with $80 million in earnings. She would have brought in even more than that if her tour hadnt been cut short by a hip injury. Her latest single, Applause, was overshadowed last week by Katy Perry s latest, Roar. But Gaga can comfort herself with the knowledge that last year at least, she earned a lot more money than Perry, who brought in an estimated $39 million. To compile our list, we talked to agents, managers, producers and other in-the-know folks to come up with estimates for each celebritys entertainment-related earnings between June 2012 and June 2013, the time frame for our Celebrity 100 list.
